Drexel Heard II

Drexel Heard II is a seasoned political strategist, communications expert, and public affairs leader with a proven track record of success at the local, state, and national levels. A military brat and North Carolina State alumnus, Drexel brings a unique perspective shaped by diverse experiences and a deep commitment to public service.

With extensive expertise in policy analysis, campaign strategy, and stakeholder engagement, Drexel has played pivotal roles in high-profile elections, including President Obama’s 2008 and 2012 campaigns, serving as California Deputy State Director for the Biden/Harris 2020 campaign, and leading Out for Harris-Walz as Senior California Lead. He has also managed campaigns for local and statewide races, leveraging his comprehensive understanding of domestic and international policy to deliver innovative solutions that resonate with voters and constituents.

Drexel currently serves as Principal at a national public affairs firm, where he oversees client portfolios across California, specializing in communications strategy, political strategy, brand management, and event planning. Previously, he made history as the youngest, first Black, and openly LGBTQ Executive Director and Senior Advisor of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party—the nation’s largest local Democratic Party—where he spearheaded initiatives that increased Democratic voter registration, strengthened party operations, and enhanced grassroots engagement. During his tenure, he raised $2.1 million, developed recruitment programs, and fostered dynamic youth and community outreach. His diverse professional background also includes serving as a Brand Marketing and Events Executive for Macy’s and Project Supervisor for Universal Studios Hollywood, overseeing park expansion including Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Beyond his professional achievements, Drexel remains deeply engaged in community advocacy. He serves on several boards, including the Board of Advisors and PAC Committee for Equality California, Heidi Duckler Dance, and he was the first Black Community Vice President for Stonewall Democrats Los Angeles. Additionally, he contributed to the Los Angeles City Task Force for Youth Development, appointed by then Councilmember David Ryu.
